Deep in to the third quarter of Salem’s Friday night game with the Amherst County Lancers, there was still time for a Lancer comeback. Amherst received the kickoff, a low bouncing kick that could have been anyone’s ball, and had good field position at the 35 yard line.
The Lancers fake a run and throw the pass that could have been the touchdown that put them back in the game.
Salem’s Shawn Collins had different plans. A fast run to the inside of 
Amherst’s receiver and sure hands on the intercepted pass, turned the Lancers final hope into the inevitability of a Salem win in their season opener. WATCH HERE.
After 2 more Spartan touchdowns, Salem went on to win 49-14.
There were many other stellar performances and plays in Friday’s game as well. Congratulations are in order for the entire team and the dedicated people who coached the 2018 Salem Spartans to their first victory.
